Abstract: In connection with demolition activities at FRJ-1, MERLIN, the thermal columns were also dismantled. These columns are made of graphite bricks which had been intensively irradiated with neutrons during the service life of the reactor. The graphite samples obtained were first examined by $\gamma$-spectrometry. The samples were then completely incinerated in order to determine their $^{3}$H and $^{14}$C content. $^{55}$Fe, $\alpha$-total and $\beta/\gamma$-total were analysed in the combustion residue. In parallel, a chemical analysis of the residue was performed with the aid of ICP-MS. The results of the analysis are an integral part of this report.
